　　以往考试将历史分为28个时期，共12个主题，重在对史实的掌握。改革后的考试时间段仍然是从哥伦布发现美洲大陆之前到20世纪80年代之后，但简化为9个时期，7大主题。不同之处在于，在每个时期考生都要明确地掌握其中3个重要概念，并且能够用有效的史实进行证明。也就是说，考察的内容基本并无太大变化，但对历史时期的特点多了归纳性的记忆和思考。下面是改革前后主题的对比：

　　改革前(重在史实考察)：

　　American Indian cullers of North America at the time of European contact

　　改革后(重在理解与整合)：

　　On a North American continent controlled by American Indians, contact among the peoples of Europe, the Americas, and West Africa created a new world.

　　Key Concept 1.1 Before the arrival of Europeans, native populations in North America developed a wide variety of social, political and economic strutters based in part on interactions with the environment and each other.

　　在主题上的简化并不意味着记忆的内容有所缩减，而是将相近的内容进行了有效合并。关于每一阶段的三个重要概念，考生需要在college board官网上下载2014-2015年考试大纲(framework)。考察比重并无大的调整。哥伦布之前以及1980之后仍然不属于问答题的考察范围。
