When many people think of coffee in Africa, they think mainly of growing and harvesting beans. lt's true that Ethiopia and Uganda are often ranked among the world's top ten coffee-producing nations.But in recent years, coffee shop culture has become popular in some urban areas in Africa. Big-name international coffee shops are certainly behind this,but local business people have also played a part.Patrick Edun, founder of the coffee shop chain Mambila Café, thought there would be interest in his native city Lagos for places to meet with friends and listen to music while enjoying coffee and snacks.Edun also committed to using only high-quality Nigerian or Ethiopian beans to make coffee drinks.He now operates five Mambila Café locations in Lagos. He faces competition there from three other locally owned coffee shop chains, each with its own unique spin on coffee shop culture.
