Lunchtime Student Concerts in Music Building

Next semester the music department will begin sponsoring a series of free concerts featuring student performers. The lunchtime concerts will be held monthly in the music building lounge. The series will include performances of classical, jazz, and popular music. According to music department chairperson Karen Littlefield, “This series will greatly benefit our music students by giving them the opportunity to perform in front of live audiences” A selection of snacks will be available free of charge for students who want something to eat during the ten-minute intermission.

Narrator: Now listen to two students discussing the article.
Man: Hey, Molly. You play the violin, right? Did you see this article in today's paper?
Woman: Yeah. And I'm looking forward to it. I really want to participate.
Man: Sounds like fun.
Woman: Yeah, and it's a great opportunity, because the thing is that each of us learns to play a lot of different pieces. But right now, there's only one concert given at the end of the year where students play. So we each usually only get to play one piece at that concert.
Man: You're left having learned a lot of material that you never actually get the chance to perform.
Woman: Right. So, it would be great to have more opportunities like this.
Man: I see your point.
Woman: I like the thing about the food, too, because I think a lot of people, if they go, they'll be squeezing it in between classes, so they won't have time to eat lunch or anything before or after the concert.
Man: That's true, especially since the music building is way off by itself at the other end of campus, not close to any of the dining halls or the student center.
Woman: Yeah, it's easily a 15-minute walk away, so this way people would still get something like to eat. It's a really good idea.
