Official 56 Task 2

Students Need Campus Snack Shop

I think the university should open a snack shop on campus—a snack shop that would be operated entirely by our students. A student-run snack shop would benefit students in two ways. First, it would create a number of job opportunities for students. Second, the store would be a convenient place on campus to buy food, providing students with a fast, easy place to get snacks at any time of the day.

Julia Wilson

Narrator: Now listen to two students discussing the letter.
Woman: Did you see Juillet's letter?
Man: Yeah, I did.
Woman: And?
Man: I'm all for it.
Woman: Yeah?
Man: Yeah! Jobs like that provides students with great work experience. Experience they can use in the real world.
Woman: Like what?
Man: Well, I mean the basically they'd be running a business. They learn how to do it all. Make up staff schedules, keep track of inventory, order supplies, make sure the building is maintained.
Woman: Yeah, I guess you could learn a lot.
Man: Yeah, staff you can really use when you graduate, especially if you're thinking of starting your own business.
Man: Especially if all you want is like a cup of coffee or a quick sandwich or something.
Woman: That's true. But if you have a car.
Man: Yeah, if you have a car which a lot of students don't, you can drive to one of the stores in town, but still the closest ones like a fifteen-minute drive. So a round trip, it takes at least a half an hour.
Woman: And that's time you could use for studying.
Man: Exactly.

The man expresses his opinion about the letter writer’s proposal. Briefly summarize the proposal. Then state the man’s opinion and explain the reasons he gives for holding that opinion.
