ProfessorWe’ve been discussing the importance of improving education, Let's focus now on the role of homework and its impact on student learning. Some people argue that homework is essential for reinforcing what children have learned in the classroom. On the other side are those who assert that homework often amounts to nothing more than busy work for children and is a waste of time that could be spent doing something more constructive. What do you stand in this debate?
KellyI agree that homework reinforces what students have learned at school. The time that students spend in an actual lesson with the teacher is very limited and is probably not enough for students to fully absorb all the information. Without homework, how would teachers know whether students understood the lesson?
PaulI personally have never found homework to be helpful, so I agree that it is a waste of time and energy. I'm not sure that anyone actually enjoys doing homework. Maybe the problem is in the format of the homework itself. If it were presented in an engaging manner, maybe students like me would find more value in it.
