Narrator：Listen to a Conversation between the student and the housing office employee

学生：你好，我是凯特·普莱尔。我有一个预约。

Student: Hi, I am Kate Player.I have an appointment.

员工：好的，我能为你做些什么呢？

学生：嗯，是关于我的宿舍房间的。

员工：好的，你住在哪栋宿舍楼？

Employee：Ok, which dormitory do you live in?

我相信住在那里一定不太舒服，但你知道那只是一个临时安排，直到新宿舍建好为止。

I’m sure can’t be too comfortable living there, but you do realize it’s just a temporary arrangement till the new dorm’s ready.

员工：我知道施工有些延误，但最迟到二月份，新楼就会完工并投入使用。所以下学期你就可以搬到更好的宿舍了。

Employee: I know there's been some construction delays, but by February the very latest, the new building will be finished and ready to go, so by next semester, you should be moving into much nicer quarters.

I mean the problem is not so much that there are four of us living in a double.

I can deal with the bunkbeds and the non-existing closet space, but we only have two desks between the four of us and that's a real problem.

I mean I have a desk top computer and nowhere to put it.

Employees: Hmmm, there is probably no room for more desks.

Student: Not really, and two of my roommates are staying in Joy’s hall next semester so naturally they claim the desk for their computers.

Employees: And you can’t use one of the computer on campus? Or work at the library?

学生：哦，我有用，但那些地方晚上九点就关门了，而且……

Student: Oh, I do, but all those buildings close by nine and…

员工：你能不能和某位室友协商一下？

Employees: Could you work at an arrangement with one of your Roommates?

也许她会让你用一下她的电脑，或者至少和你共享书桌空间。

Maybe she would let you use your computer or at least share the desk base.

学生：我可以问问看。但如果到了学期末，我们每个人都有作业要交怎么办呢？

Student: I could ask. But what happens at the end of the semester when we all have assignments due at the same time.

再说了，我的室友们人确实很好，但你知道的，她们一在房间就喜欢聊天、听音乐——那我写论文怎么办呢？

Plus, well it's not that my roommates aren’t great people, but you know they like to talk when they are around listen to music so what do I do if I'm working on papers 
Employees: And it's probably not just your room is like this 
Student: oh no every room has at least one extra student everybody's complaining 
Employees: I’m surprise I haven’t heard anything
Student: Well it's only the third week of classes I'm sure you'll hear more soon enough
Employees: Hmm, I know your dorm is a big lounge.

员工：而且可能不仅仅是你们的房间是这样。

Employees: And it's probably not just your room is like this.

学生：哦不，每个房间至少都多住了一个人，大家都在抱怨。

Student: oh no every room has at least one extra student everybody's complaining.

员工：我很惊讶我之前都没听说过。

Employees: I’m surprise I haven’t heard anything.

学生：这才是开学第三周，我相信你很快就会听到更多了。

Student: Well it's only the third week of classes I'm sure you'll hear more soon enoug.

员工：嗯……我知道你们宿舍楼有一个很大的休息厅。我在想我们能不能放些桌子，把一部分空间改造成学习区。这样就有多点地方可以用来学习了。不过……我的意思是，那我的电脑怎么办？

Employees: Hmm, I know your dorm is a big lounge. I wonder if we can put in some desks and turn part of it into a study area.Student: It be nice to have some extra space to work. But still, I mean what do I do with my computer.

员工：很遗憾，目前可能只能让它继续留在小房间里。

Employees: Unfortunately for now, it probably has to stay in his box .

But… see I don’t think we’ve ever tried this.

If the computer support folks agree maybe we could arrange for you to have a laptop computer while you're living there.

I know that faculty use some of them to travel.
